Clinical Leadership

Dr. David Karow is internationally recognized as an innovative leader in MRI imaging and genomic analytics. He is a proponent of using data-driven precision medicine testing and AI to achieve extensions in the healthy human lifespan. He is the senior author and co-author of numerous publications focused on early detection of chronic age-related disease using imaging and genomic biomarkers. Dr. Karow graduated from medical school at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2005 in a combined MD/PhD program with a distinction in research and completed residency and fellowship at UC San Diego and UC Los Angeles, respectively.

Dr. Chen is a fellowship-trained specialist in integrative internal medicine with numerous scientific publications from institutions such as FDA, National Institutes of Health and National Cancer Institute.  She has been featured as a medical expert on ABC, NBC, FOX, MSN, and numerous magazines and podcasts. She was awarded Top 25 Women Leaders in Biotechnology in 2023 by Healthcare Technology Report for her leadership in wellness companies focused on health tools aimed in empowering people to optimize their health.

With over twenty years of clinical experience and numerous peer reviewed journal articles, Dr. Ziainia is the Chief of Women’s Health and Performance Medicine at Human Longevity. Dr. Ziainia has received numerous awards from Top Doctors of San Diego (2013-2019, 2021-2022) to the Sharp Rees Stealy Physician Excellence Award. Additionally, Dr. Ziainia has been interviewed on numerous media platforms including KTVI FOX 2 News, KPBS, and KMOV News.

Our Clinician Team

Dr. Dinenberg, fellowship-trained in Integrative Medicine, has over 18 years of experience bringing mindfulness practices to healthcare settings. He completed his residency at UCSF and earned his MPH at UC Berkeley. Before joining HLI, he worked in private practice at Scripps Memorial and served as co-founder and CMO at a population health company. Additionally, he has written books on mindfulness and produced a popular meditation album.

Dr. Keen has over two decades of clinical and academic experience. Prior to HLI, Dr. Keen was the Assistant Medical Director and Chief of Echocardiography, Adult Congenital Heart Disease, and Internal Medicine at Kaiser Permanente. He maintains an academic appointment at UCSD as Clinical Professor of Medicine.

Dr. Ziainia is the Chief of Women’s Health and Performance Medicine at Human Longevity. With over 24 years of clinical experience and awards including Top Doctors of San Diego and the Sharp Rees Stealy Physician Excellence Award, she brings her unique experience and expertise on hormone optimization to our team. Previously, Dr. Ziainia was an assistant professor at Saint Louis University and a physician at Sharp Rees Stealy before joining us to practice precision longevity medicine with an emphasis on a personal approach to healthcare.

Dr. O’Byrne graduated from Rutgers Medical School, completing her residency in Internal Medicine & Vascular Medicine and her fellowship at Cleveland Clinic and the Andrew Weil Center. Her clinical and teaching experience spans over 20 years at Cleveland Clinic, Scripps Clinic, UCSD Medical School and the Veterans Administration Health Center. Additionally, she serves as a medical consultant for the Medical Board of California.

Dr. Malcolmson combines whole genome sequencing, imaging, nutrition, and clinical evaluation to optimize health and mitigate risks. Her preventive health practice, grounded in nutrition and molecular biology, began after studying Nutritional Sciences and Molecular Biology at UC Berkeley. She has over 25 years of experience as an internal medicine physician and has also worked as a biotech consultant to Applied Biosystems and Arrowhead Research.

Madison Pachoe is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She received her BS in Biology from Georgetown University. After working for the CDC for two years, she went on to complete her Master’s and Doctorate degree in Nursing at Columbia University with a subspecialty in women’s health. She is passionate about the future democratization of preventative medicine and has provided healthcare services to homeless shelters across NYC.

Board certified with a clinical background in Cardiology and Internal Medicine, Abigail has a passion for disease prevention through optimization of all aspects of health and wellness. She considers multidimensional aspects of well-being to treat the whole person, with a goal to not only help you live longer but thrive longer. Abigail has been recognized with Scripps’ “Honored Caregiver” award by her patients. 

With over a decade of clinical experience, most notably in Internal Medicine at Scripps Clinic Torrey Pines, Jessica is Board-Certified in Adult and Gerontology Primary Care with dual degrees as Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist. Her approach to precision medicine transcends pharmacologic therapy, encompassing holistic and lifestyle measures tailored to the individual.

Julia Appis is board certified with experience in internal medicine as well as family medicine. She is passionate about preventative medicine and lifestyle modification to achieve optimal health. As a strong proponent of diet and exercise, she enjoys discussing how these elements can fit realistically and practically into someone’s life. Her individualized approach to medicine recognizes that each client has their own specific needs that must be addressed to achieve meaningful longevity.

Clinical Genetics Team

Dr. Stratakis is renowned for his contributions to genetics, discovering genes linked to various conditions including adrenal and pituitary tumors and Carney complex and Carney-Stratakis syndrome. He has studied numerous genetic syndromes, authored over 800 publications, and received prestigious awards such as the Endocrine Society’s Excellence Award and the Dale Medal. Dr. Stratakis has held significant leadership roles, including as NICHD’s Scientific Director and President of the Society for Pediatric Research.

Dr. Du is an ABMGG board-certified clinical laboratory geneticist with specializations in clinical molecular genetics and cytogenetics. She combines her expertise in cutting-edge genetic technologies with 8 years of diagnostic experience in both public and private sectors to advance the field of precision medicine. Dr. Du trained in Clinical Genetics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and has significant research experience in cellular oncology at NCI/NIH. She holds a PhD in cancer cell biology and has published over 15 articles in esteemed journals.

Brenden Phung is a certified genetic counselor with extensive experience in telehealth and oncology. He graduated from UC Davis with a BS in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, where he served as a patient advocate at the Sacramento Paul Hom Clinic. Brenden earned his MS in Genetic Counseling from Northwestern University, where he conducted significant research. He has worked as an ophthalmic medical technician and actively volunteers with Crisis Text Line and UC Davis Health MIND Institute. 

Radiologists

Dr. Wang is a diagnostic imaging specialist who graduated from Harvard University and the UCLA School of Medicine before beginning his career in orthopedic surgery. He then transitioned to radiology, where he has over fifteen years of experience and has served as National Associate Director and Chief Quality Officer of a large transnational radiology group. 

Dr. Jason Meigs is a board-certified Diagnostic Radiologist who has been interpreting imaging at Human Longevity since 2019. He completed medical school at A.T. Still University- Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine where he first learned the importance of whole person healthcare. He then completed a Diagnostic Radiology residency at the University of Kansas- Wichita and an MRI Fellowship at UC San Diego.

Dr. Hernandez is a board-certified diagnostic radiologist based in San Diego. He graduated from Yale University in 2006 with a degree in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry. He then graduated from the University of Texas – Southwestern Medical School in 2010 before completing a radiology residency at the University of South Alabama in 2015. Dr. Hernandez joined Human Longevity in 2016 after completing a body imaging fellowship at UC San Diego.
