13 years later, Dr. Venter co-founded Human Longevity and currently serves as HLI’s Chief Scientific Advisor.

Starting as a research project, Human Longevity has now become a comprehensive precision medicine company under the direction of Dr. Wei-wu He. As one of the original scientists that worked with J. Craig Venter at Human Genome Sciences, Dr. He has been instrumental in bringing the genomic revolution to proactive healthcare.

Our first precision medicine clinic was opened in San Diego in 2015. Since then, Human Longevity has opened two more clinics in San Francisco and Beijing, with plans for seven additional locations across the globe over the next 5 years.

Our Leadership

David Karow, MD, PhD

President and Chief of Radiology

Dr. David Karow is internationally recognized as an innovative leader in MRI imaging and genomic analytics. He is a proponent of using data-driven precision medicine testing and AI to achieve extensions in the healthy human lifespan. He is the senior author and co-author of numerous publications focused on early detection of chronic age-related disease using imaging and genomic biomarkers. Dr. Karow graduated from medical school at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2005 in a combined MD/PhD program with a distinction in research and completed residency and fellowship at UC San Diego and UC Los Angeles, respectively.

Julie Chen, MD

Chief Medical Officer and SF Medical Director

Dr. Chen is a fellowship-trained specialist in integrative internal medicine with numerous scientific publications from institutions such as the FDA, National Institutes of Health and National Cancer Institute. She has been featured as a medical expert on ABC, NBC, FOX, and MSN, as well as numerous magazines and podcasts. Dr. Chen was awarded Top 25 Women Leaders in Biotechnology in 2023 by Healthcare Technology Report for her leadership in wellness companies focused on health tools aimed in empowering people to optimize their health.
